Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with students studying basic academic areas (math, writing, reading, social studies, science). The subjects worked on during tutoring sessions are dictated by the skills of the tutor and need of the student.
Requirements: Placements must be 18 years or older, have some college experience, and pass a state criminal history check. Necessary skills: a sincere desire to be involved with young people, flexibility and openness, ability to model appropriate behavior for youth including consistency, dependability and integrity. Skills received: a working knowledge of the social issues impacting the lives of at-risk youth, enhancement of leadership skills, experience in bridging gaps between diverse groups, team work and project management skills, experience with directly impacting the lives of young people, information about community needs, teaching and classroom Management experience.
Training: Trainings will be held at LifeWorks South site. Training dates and times are flexible. Trainers will include LifeWorks GED Instructors.
Term: 3-6 months, preferably
Schedule: Class times are M-TH 9:00am-12:00pm, 1:00pm-4pm, or 5:00pm-8:00pm **tutors must work at least two classes a week.**
